Show-n-Tell

As an active group our members always have something interesting to show us at each meeting.

Show-n-Tell 23rd September 2024

This week we were lucky enough to see many of Margaret's quilts, both large and miniature, these she has made over her 40+ years of quilting.

quilt

This is the first one Margaret made for her eldest daughter, age 3years. Made in 1977, Margaret used materials from outgrown clothes and other scraps that all held meaning for her.

Her second daughter needed one too so Margaret made this one in 1984. This had design input from her daughter who drew the cat, block four on the second from bottom row, and also insisted that the teddies asleep in block four third row down had a patchwork quilt on their bed. This was made up using just over 100 squares!

quilt

Margaret called this attractive quilt 'Variations on a Plate'. All hand quilted, made in 2005.

quilt

Margaret loves Baltimore quilts so designed and made this one. All hand appliqué and quilting.

Margaret's mother was also a quilter and gave Margaret a challenge, a bag full of Suffolk Puffs that she had made and didn't know what to do with! It took Margaret a while to think up the design and make up the quilt and her mum was really happy with the result.

This is how Margaret uses up leftover blocks she had in her stash!

mini quilt

Margaret moved on to making show quality miniature quilts. Many of these have won prizes at various quilt shows and this one has travelled to France to be put on show there. All hand pieced, with another tiny quilt cover on the bed. It also includes the bra hanging on the end of the bed and the loo roll down near the baby's cot!

These miniatures have been mounted to be travelled for displays, they vary in size from postcard to larger ones, the 'Ghost House'.
